DJ Mr. King Raises $2,400 For Breast Cancer Awareness Through 24-hr Mix-A-Thon

AKRON, Ohio – October 17, 2013—DJ Mr. King hosted his inaugural “Scratchin’ To Survive” Breast Cancer Awareness Mix-A-Thon this past weekend raising $2,400 for the American Cancer Society.

The event, which challenged King to DJ for 24 consecutive hours in the storefront of NEXT Akron in Highland Square, brought in pledges and donations from supporters in the City of Akron and online contributions from fans across the country. The event concluded with a check presentation to the American Cancer Society.

“This was such an amazing event,” said Rhonda Stummer, Regional Relay for Life Manager at the American Cancer Society. “What a great way to raise money and bring attention to the area in a positive way.”

Scratchin’ To Survive, which began at 3pm Friday, attracted faces of all ages to the Highland Square area. About a dozen people actually camped out with King overnight while waiting in line for the release of a new sneaker the following morning.

“I still can’t believe I did something this crazy,” said King laughing. “To have this much support behind such a good cause, I really didn’t have time to think about how tired I actually was at the time.”

A sincere thanks goes out to all the supporters, pledgers, sponsors and individuals who helped make Scratchin’ To Survive a success. DJ Mr. King and the Young Black Professional Coalition (YBPC) will be in attendance at the Making Strides Against Breast Cancer Walk Sunday at the University of Akron.
