Benz aka Da Man Biography
Gifted to the hip-hop industry in 1999, Fredrick Terry also known as Benz is Jackson’s leading rap icon. Benz was born in Jackson, Mississippi on October 13th. The name Benz was coined by one of his friends who noticed his flashy style and referred to him as a 500 Mercedes Benz, unknowingly speaking a prophetic word into his life, when telling him to “do it big”. He never had aspirations of becoming a rap superstar however he was a natural, born with the talent. Benz initially began the art of rapping when he heard his homeboys doing it and felt like he could do it too, but better. “The Queen Boyz” was formed; consisting of himself and Bra also known as da Block Bear. Finances were there from the street life he was living, so he invested in himself and took it to the extreme. The vision, also there, he would be the epitome of rappers amongst his peers and those who were already made. The Queen Boyz dropped their first cd in 2000 titled “Pack Pushers” and sold over 10000 copies. The album had a hit single called “Hata Blockaz” which won song of the year. Shortly after the dropping of the first album they signed a label deal with Interscope Records. In 2001, Benz dropped a mixtape, titled “1 Life 1 Love Allstar”. Since Interscope never published the duo, they got out of the deal and went back to being independent. In 2003, Benz along with Skrilla Boy was featured on one of the hottest songs in Mississippi called, “Say It to My Face”. The song belonged to long time friend Boo da Boss Playa aka Rossini (now signed to CTE), which received over 100 spins a day independently. In 2005, the Queen Boyz dropped another album called “Get Cha Weight Up” it sold over 7500 copies which won them group of the year. In 2007, Benz dropped his first solo album along with dvd named “Meet da Man” that sold approximately 12000 units. The album had two singles that did well on the radio, “Getting Money” and “Da Wait is Ova”. In 2008, he had a “streetbanger” called, “She a Freak”. He also won artist of the year, and dropped a mixtape called “In a League of My Own”. He currently has a single that is getting plenty of radio play called “I Might” and it too is gaining momentum. Currently, Benz is working on 3 new projects, “Da Relief Plan”, “Tax Season”, and “Dinner Time”. The artist’s goals however, do not plateau at hip-hop. His gifts, goals, and ambition extend into the business world. Innate to writing he plans to further his career in entertainment such as plays and movies. From the hood to fortune and fame Benz aka Da Man may be looked upon as arrogant, as seen and heard in the video he has called “Arrogant”. However, he leaves his fans with the advice to “follow your heart and don’t believe nothing (anyone) tell(s) you”, “be up grinding when others sleep”, and “give it your all baby and if you fail you can’t be mad”.
