What Ya Know Bout Da Go ? "Naledge Edition (kidz In the hall)"
We get's it in In the Go
Posted by Gotty™ @ 7:25 am
FILED UNDER: "Fifteen Minutes With...", ARTIST INTERVIEWS, GENERAL.
A few weeks ago, I mentioned that I finally took a minute to listen to Kidz In The Hall’s School Was My Hustle, which was released on the recently revamped Rawkus Records (previous post). As refreshing as the album was, I was more suprised that, while doing the search for pics and more info, I seen my son Naledge rockin the P-Wings hoodie. That set off a chain of events that I’ll spare you. Anybody who knows me knows my affinity for sneakers, hats & gear, especially Polo in all it’s forms. So to see an artist embracing it & rockin it respectfully, I had to show love.
Essentially though, my man Sneek from RockAndRollIsDead.net have been pollyin for a minute, about music, the biz and fashion. And then he hit me with the idea.
Sneek - “Yo, I think I’m gonna get @ Naledge and have him speak on vintage ‘Lo.”
GottyĆ¢„¢ - “That’s a bet. Run it.”
It don’t get no better - Cassidy.
Words By Sneek 0f RRisDead.net
Sneek: How did you become interested in vintage Polo considering your age?
Naledge: Its crazy because way back when I was younger I was always into Lacoste, Polo, and rugbys and fleeces you know the whole nautical wear. It gets real cold in Chicago and so we like to layer up. As far as the vintage Polo I was always into it but about 3 or 4 years ago I started getting into it real strong. The more you go places and see people you want to step into the room and feel more unique. We’re in an age where people want to be individuals and want to have something exclusive and to have something vintage is dope.
Hip-Hop heads can respect it because if you look back at Grand Puba, and Brand Nubian and what those cats where rocking some of that stuff is still fresh but its hard to find. Also some of the people I’m around now are into Polo like John Monopoly, Twilight Tone, and DJ Word.
Sneek: I heard Just Blaze is into vintage Polo too.
Naledge: Yea Just, is real heavy into it. He is like one of those kids who was always into Polo but couldn’t necessarily afford it as a child so he is just going back and getting all the stuff he couldn’t when he was in high school. Being around all those cats, some of there style has influenced me and some of my style has influenced them but one thing will always remain the same, clothing is like a competition or a sport to see who can get the flyest stuff. And with the vintage gear some pieces are hard to find, sometimes even if you have the money if you don’t have the connect its hard to get.
Sneek: Who is the biggest Polo collector that you know in the industry?
Naledge: Probably DJ Twilight Tone.
Sneek: Do you cop stuff on eBay?
Naledge: I’m not big on the eBay thing because I have so many people around me who are willing to give up the goods for the right price. Just has one of the illest connects but he hardly ever wants to give up the goods.
Sneek: What is the craziest thing you have done for some clothes?
Naledge: Well I had some guys that used to rob trains. They would hit the trains and I would come up off them. Me and one of my homeboys also used to go downtown on Michigan Avenue and try on gear and put it on under whatever we had on. You could only use the skinny dudes cause he could put on three or four outfits and just walk out.
Sneek: What is the clothing scene like out in Chicago? I know it’s a lot of fly people out there and indie brands.
Naledge: Yea we got Phli, Fashion Geek, and Saint Alfred. The Leaders is probably one of the illest stores in Chicago and Self Conscious is also poppin off.
Sneek: What do you think of new trends?
Naledge: We was doing the preppy look way back. Southside kids been doin it, kinda like a fresh b-boy look. Now skate culture has infiltrated a little bit. Certain things like vintage Polo and Yves Saint Laurant will just never go away. Some things are always classic and are always fresh around the way.
Sneek: Any fashion predictions for 2007?
Naledge: I think more cats are getting into accessories now, belts, shades and just doing different things as far as adding on to outfits. It used to be simple you had some jeans a shirt and some cool kicks, but now it’s a little more even with the New Era hats, it’s been taken to a new level of customization.
I think that’s where the Chicago scene is starting to become more about. It’s like if you cant get the ultra-fresh stuff, you want the ultra-exclusive stuff or the ultra-vintage stuff. I just seen a cat with a YSL rugby on and was like man you hurtin’ em. Even the vintage Benneton is hot. The P-wing (Polo) always appealed to me just cause me, going to University of Pennsylvania, the P always symbolized so much, it almost looked like the Penn Relays logo and the colors went with our school colors.
Sneek: What are some other clothing brands that you like?
Naledge: A lot of people send me stuff now just being that I’m an artist so I get a lot of samples. A year or to ago I got into Creative Recreation as far as shoes, I like the way they feel on my feet. Greedy Genius is fly and I have been down with Five Four since day one. They were one of my first sponsors. I also like Alife, Artful Dodger, Obey, and The Hundreds. I like to keep it home though with Fashion Geek and Phli, the same way they want to see me grow as an artist I want to see them grow.
Sneek: What is your definition of “fresh”?
Naledge: I think fresh is being an individual and not necessarily looking like somebody else. Having what you wear explain who you are and having it define you and your own unique style to me is being fresh. One thing I’m not feeling is people thinking they fresh cause they look like the next man or they wearing what everybody else is “supposed” to be wearing. Somebody who is really fresh can make something out of nothing its not about money when it comes to being fresh and being fly.
Sneek: The Kidz In The Hall album School Was My Hustle dropped, tell us about that album title.
Naledge: Where I’m from everybody is like “what do you do?” You have to have some type of purpose or hustle. Some cats was hoopers, some cats were hustling, some cats were all about getting the chicks. For me my hustle was school, most people looked at me like don’t mess with him cause he is a school kid, don’t take him off that path cause he can actually do something. So that was where the title School Was My Hustle came from, I rapped from the point of a schoolboy, someone who has came out of a prestigious institution but at the same time I’m a city kid so I’m going to apply that to a street perspective.
Sneek: How is it being a college graduate in this Hip-Hop industry?
Naledge: I think it helps. As far as knowing people I know a lot of people who started as interns and worked there way up at labels. People also respect you a lot more when they know they can’t get over on you. If you studied business then obviously it’s going to be hard for someone to get something over on you. If you studied marketing then obviously you are going to have some ideas about promoting yourself. School was a way for me to find myself as an individual, an artist, a scholar, and just a man in general.
Sneek: What is upcoming from Naledge?
Naledge: The solo project is coming first this summer, and were going to do another Kidz In The Hall Album. We still pushing School Was My Hustle, it’s been a blessing that people have accepted the album and it’s been getting good reviews and the buzz on it has been pretty good.
Sneek: Now you have the floor to say whatever you want.
Naledge: Go to the website www.KidzinTheHall.com and my website www.Naledge.com. I’m in a few magazines this month XXL, Mass Appeal, and The Source. Naledge Is Power album coming soon.

Rich Boy_Lawsuit...
Tuesday, 13 January 2009 22:46
A 2005 road rage incident may cost Alabama rapper Rich Boy several high-priced liens on any of his available property. According to the Atlanta Journal Constitution, a tax accountant from Mobile, Alabama is seeking liens against the rapper to collect of a $337,500 winning lawsuit.
The accountant, Chaz Mosley, successfully sued Rich Boy, real name Marece Richards, and his brother Irvin O. Richards for shooting at him with an assault rifle in 2005.
The lawsuit alleges that Rich Boy’s brother fired at least 10 bullets into the victim’s vehicle.
Despite the barrage, Mosley escaped unscathed. Irvin O. Richards plead guilty to assault, and is now serving a 10 year prison sentence.
Rich Boy received probation for his role in the crime. Since Rich Boy spends much of his time in Atlanta, lawyers for Mosley have filed suit in Fulton County Superior Court.
If Rich Boy does have assets or attempts to buy property in the county, his holdings will be subject to liens.
At press time, Rich Boy is alleged to still owe $312,500 on the debt.
Greg Miller, the rapper’s publicist, could not confirm if his client will make arrangements to satisfy the remaining debt.
Rich Boy is currently working on 5 Million, his sophomore follow up his 2007 self-titled debut. That album spanned the platinum, breakout single “Throw Some D’s.”

Gay Rumor Swirls Around Eddy Curry Of The NY Knicks
Knick center Eddy Curry was slapped with a shocking sexual-harassment suit yesterday by his former driver, who claims the 6-foot-11 hoopster tried to solicit gay sex from him.
Stunning court papers charge that Curry, a married father of several kids, repeatedly approached chauffeur David Kuchinsky “in the nude,” saying, “Look at me, Dave, look” and, “Come and touch it, Dave.”
Curry, 26, also made Kuchinsky perform “humiliating tasks outside the scope of his employment, such as cleaning up and removing dirty towels [into which Curry had ejaculated] so that his wife would not see them,” the Manhattan federal court suit says.
Kuchinsky, 36, who is straight and Jewish, also alleges racism, saying Curry hurled slurs at him, including “f- - - ing Jew,” “cracker,” “white slave,” “white devil” and “grandmaster of the KKK.”
Curry, a former Chicago Bull, said last night he was “shocked” at the allegations. “It’s false, and everyone who knows me knows I’m not a racist,” he said after the Knicks beat the Hornets in New Orleans. “I’ve never made a comment like that, playing, or nothing. . . . That’s incredible, man.”
The sexual allegations recall a 2006 lawsuit by Knicks marketing VP Anucha Browne Sanders, who claimed then-General Manager Isiah Thomas made advances on her. She settled for $11.5 million after winning at trial.
And in an episode reminiscent of some elements of the manslaughter case against former New Jersey Net star Jayson Williams - who fatally shot a limo driver - Kuchinsky’s suit also claims Curry pointed a “fully loaded” gun at him on at least two occasions.
“Look, I have one in the chamber,” Curry allegedly said.
Kuchinsky, who worked for Curry from October 2005 through October 2008, says he was hired as a 24/7 chauffeur for the hoop star and his family, and lived in the basement of their Chicago mansion.
But shortly after starting work, he “progressively became Curry’s ‘house-boy,’ ” his suit says.
He wants $98,000 plus compensatory damages from the Knick, whose contract pays him $9.4 million this year. Damage claims typically can go up to $5 million in state court, Kuchinsky’s lawyer said.
Kuchinsky says he is owed $68,000 in unpaid wages, as well as $25,000 in expenses for which Curry never repaid him. Those expenses, he said, included cellphones that Curry had him buy as gifts and hotel and club bills. “Instead of paying him, they discriminated against him,” said Kuchinsky’s lawyer, Matthew Blit. “Imagine going into your boss’ office . . . and he stands up and drops his pants and he asks you [to] take care of him.”
Curry, who has played just 2 minutes, 38 seconds this season because of knee injuries, said last night that Kuchinsky had contacted a friend of his, “and every time, it was something different.”
“First time, it was to curse me out,” Curry said. “Second time, it was to apologize. Third time, it was ‘If Eddy doesn’t call me, I’m going to sue him.’ I just never, ever thought it would go past what it did, which was just idle threats, money-or-else kind of stuff.”
Curry’s lawyer, Kelly Saindon, said Kuchinsky began making a series of claims for unpaid wages several months ago, upping the ante each time. Saindon said Curry took a chance on hiring Kuchinsky despite the driver’s criminal record, which includes a three-year prison sentence for a 1992 burglary in New Jersey. He also got three years’ probation in a 2004 resisting-arrest case in the Garden State, records show.
“It’s shocking that Eddy opened his home to a convicted felon out of prison, and gave him a job when he couldn’t find a job, and this is what comes out of it,” Saindon said.
Kuchinsky’s lawyer conceded his client’s “troubled past,” but said that was all behind him.

Happy New Year from Brimstone Jones, L3, Dommy Styles and Detroit Red.
Are you embarrassed to visit the African-American book section at Borders. Have you grown tired of the Madea-type" characters dominating television or how every black man is "thugged-out" or oversexed? We'll we have a show for you.
The question we will debate tonight is the urban-centric themes dominating the arts leading a new renaissance of expression or has our music, books and theater become nothing more than a modern day minstrel show?
Author, activist, hip hop journalist and social critic Kevin Powell (Who's Gonna Take The Weight, Someday Will All Be Free) will be on Da Bidness o tonight (Jan 5th 9pm EST) We are discussing Urban America and the Arts.
We will also take an opportunity to discuss Mr. Powell's latest book, The Black Male Handbook: A Blueprint for Life.
In addition to Mr. Powell other special guests include up and coming author Monica Marie Jones(Floss) and Kamal Smith an actor, playwright and radio personality.
We encourage other actors, writers and artists to call in and give an opinion.
To participate in tonight's discussion, visit www. blogtalkradio. com/da-bidness-radio at 9pm EST or 8pm Central. The call-in number is (347) 308-8494. We look forward to hearing from you tonight.
